We offer wonderful lake front cottages with private beaches on Historic Idlewild Lake.  The community of Idlewild is a 3.5 hours drive from Detroit, MI.  It is located 30 minutes east of Ludington, MI and 30 minutes north of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI.

 

Enjoy lounging by or playing on Idlewild Lake. Choose from four of our beautiful, non-smoking and quaint cottages.  It is a home-away-from-home.  Rentals available through personal referral only. Time-share options coming soon.

Idlewild is a scenic destination.  Nature abounds and our clear-blue day skyscapes and starry night skyscapes are truly breathtaking.  Idlewild offers a place to unwind and disconnect as well as a place for adventure.

Things to do: play on Idlewild all-sports lake, take up a game at one of several nearby golf courses, hike Manistee National Forest, fish or canoe on the Pere Marquette River, bike or take your ORV out on the trails and so much more.

History

For four decades after its establishment in 1912, Idlewild was a rural retreat for African Americans seeking a bit of rest and relaxation outside the confines of their segregated communities.  They enjoyed Idlewild’s natural beauty and year-round sporting activities, as well as some of the best musical entertainment west of New York City.  Famous entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr., Sarah Vaughn, Della Reese, the Four Tops and others were regulars at Idlewild’s once-thriving nightspots.
